Intended Audience

This CFC map course is for anyone who wants to facilitate a child-friendly city map-making process for their town, community or city.  GUB is often asked about our CFC map process from around the globe and from a great variety of fields, such as professors (in academia), nonprofit leaders (who either work directly with young people or who work with organizations that work with and support young people), and city planners to name a few. Anyone looking to make their city more child-friendly (and family-friendly) will find this an attractive course.

 Purpose

This engaging, hands-on course will walk you through the stages of creating a child-friendly city map. By the end of this course, you will have a first final draft of a child-friendly your own child-friendly city map to print and distribute in your city. 

Course Methods Key

Throughout this course you will watch videos, complete interactive activities and begin to generate your own materials to create a Child-Friendly City Map.  We have provided a Course Key so that you know when you will be Experiencing👣, Researching📖, Deepening Understanding🦉, and Creating🖐.

Our goal is to provide a clear, sequential course that’s user-friendly, engaging and educational. We have provided you with all of the materials you need to create a CFC map, including examples from our own process and templates for you. See 0.5 | Important Resources. 

 Time Needed

By taking this course, we will walk you through the stages of creating a child-friendly city map. We offer two options for our course: 

Build the map AS YOU GO: If you choose to take the course and create your own child-friendly city map as you go, the course will take several months–you will learn about each stage, do the activities and build the map as you go. If you like the idea of reading about a stage and then completing that stage with your own map, step by step, then this approach is for you.

Build the map AFTERWARDS: If you choose to take the course and then engage in the map-making process afterwards, you will complete the course more quickly. This approach is for those who prefer to understand the map-making process in its entirety and then undertake creating the map without course interruptions. Course materials will always be there to support your process.
