Collect Data from Partner Engagements

Throughout the map making process, you will generate various forms of data from multiple sources. The primary data you will generate includes: 

Data from Partner Meeting 1 with Adult Partners 

This is the data you collected from Partner Meeting 1 and includes your adult partners’ responses to the Lesson 1 activities, including Map Element data from the Notecatchers and Favorite Place Drawings. It is up to you whether you want to include this data in your maps. However, we highly recommend separating and noting where data is from ADULTS and keeping that data separate from YOUTH-generated data. In creating cities that are child-friendly, we want to be attuned to highlighting youth voices, and keeping the data separated by age group ensures that children and youth voices are highlighted (and adult voices don’t overpower young people’s). If you choose to include this data, we have given recommendations for how to code and include the data in the map creation in 3.8 | Analyze Partner Meeting 1 Data.

Data from Partners Leading Lesson 1 with Youth

If you haven’t already, we recommend sending a follow-up email to partners as described in 2.14 | 🖐🏼 Prepare to Collect Partner Data.

As a reminder, when your partners lead Lesson 1 with their respective groups of youth, they will generate three sets of data: 

1. 1. Notecatchers, which capture student feedback on current maps
   2. “Favorite Place” Drawings 
   3. Any photos of student map work / student thinking 

These three sets of data will be added to subfolders that you create before Partner Meeting 1. You can review the example folders we created entitled Example Folder for Partner Data Collection for you to see how Growing Up Boulder organized their data. All of the data entered into the folders above will be entered into the CFC Map Engagement Data Spreadsheet Template. 

Before Partner Meeting 1, you decided whether to have your partners enter data into the spreadsheet (Option 1), or to enter the data yourself (Option 2).  Review 2.14 | Prepare to Collect Partner Data for the pros and cons of each option. After the data is added to the spreadsheet you will analyze the data within the spreadsheets. In 3.5 | 🖐🏽 Analyze Youth Notecatchers and 3.6 | 🖐 Analyze Youth Favorite Place Drawings we guide you through detailed steps of how to code and analyze that data. 

Data from Adult and Youth Respondents to Caregiver Survey 

In 2.13 | 🖐🏼 Create Caregiver Survey you prepared a survey to send to adults and youth to get input from the wider community.  This is a helpful way to get feedback from parents and youth who may not be in classrooms engaging in Lesson 1. There are many different ways to analyze the data. We have explored this in 3.7 | 🖐🏽 Analyze Caregiver Surveys.
