Review Equity Matrix

In 2.3 | 🖐🏾 Principle 1: Start with Equity we introduced you to the concept of an equity matrix (a table which holds the names of your partner organizations, the young people who are part of a program within that organization, the ages of those youth and any other noteworthy demographics). We guided you to consider the organizations that you hope to partner with throughout this map making journey, and then you created a draft equity matrix of your own.

Go back to 2.3 | 🖐🏾 Principle 1: Start with Equity. Re-watch the Start with Equity video, if desired, and spend time with the concepts in the Privilege and Power Wheel and your own equity matrix draft.  Remember the importance of having a diverse group of map partners involved in the project from the start. Utilize this matrix to invite potential partners for the CFC map to Partner Meeting 1.

After you complete partner introductions, you and the partners who are in attendance will fill in the blank equity matrix (slides 8-10). After you complete this matrix together, you’ll want to assess the demographics of the youth that are listed in the table thus far. Ask the group:

• What demographics are (well) represented in the matrix?
• Whose voices are missing from the matrix?
• What organizations work with those missing or underrepresented youth?
• Does anyone present today have connections with those organizations?

Make a note of the contacts and organizations your group generates. As part of your team follow up to Partner Meeting 1, you’ll reach out to these contacts/organizations, ask them to join your map project and invite them to attend another Partner Meeting 1 to ensure their communities are represented and included in this process.
