Collaborate with Partners · Prepare for Partner Meeting 1
Holding your first partner meeting is a big step in your map making journey. It represents your first public meeting and it officially launches your child-friendly city map work. In 1.9 | 🖐🏼 Asset Mapping to Identify Potential Map Partners, you began thinking about potential map partners. Bringing your partners together for this first collaborative work meeting makes your map work real. During your first partner meeting you will be meeting two major goals:
1) Introducing Child-Friendly Cities and the idea of a Child-Friendly City Map.
2) Preparing your partners to lead the Child-Friendly City Map Engagement Lesson Plan 1 with the children and youth groups in their community.
Just as you have done throughout this course, your partners will experience the same activities (as participants) that they will lead with youth during Partner Meeting 1. After this meeting, your partners will lead the children and youth they work with through Lesson Plan 1, which will generate ideas and data that the map designers will use to create the map. Capturing the data accurately ensures that the map is truly child-friendly. Through these next slides, we walk you through everything you need to know to lead Partner Meeting 1 and support your partners in leading Lesson Plan 1 and sharing youth generated ideas.

Participant Hat / Facilitator Hat
Because we can only lead as far as we have traveled, you will be guiding your partners through the same activities they will then lead with youth. You will have them wear two “hats,” one as participants experiencing the activities, and one as facilitators reflecting on the activities they experienced and preparing to lead them themselves. Take note that we have outlined these two “hats” in the slide deck and noted when you will be guiding the partners as participants, and when you will have them reflect as facilitators.

In your Growing Up Boulder Originals folder, we have provided for you a model Slide Deck and Agenda that we used in our GUB first partner meeting as well as a template of a Slide Deck and Agenda for you to use during your first partner meetings. The slide deck and agenda are two key materials that you’ll use while conducting your first meeting. At GUB, we use the notes section of our slide decks to remind us of important facilitation questions, link to external documents, and keep ourselves on track for the meeting. We have included these notes on some of the slides for you to utilize if you like during Partner Meeting 1.
To prepare for the meetings, review the CFC Slide Deck and Agenda examples to understand the scope of the meeting and to get a general sense for the various activities that you will facilitate during the two hour meeting. You will go into the specifics of each meeting activity in future pages.
